The year 2020 started off with a bang. The grand Siyum Hashas of Daf Yomi was celebrated at Metlife Stadium. A few weeks later at the Shasathon, 600 strong gathered together to learn the entire Shas under one roof at the Ocean Place Resort. What a beautiful sight of hundreds packed in swaying and shuckling to the words of Abaya and Rava. Who could've imagined just a few short weeks later the "new norm" hit, the Coronavirus reached the American shores.
Isolation, quarantine, masks, WHO, CDC and zoom, all part of our new lexicon,
shuls, schools and yeshivos shuttered, financial hardships reigned, unfortunately levaya announcments and cholim lists kept growing on and on.
Everyone celebrating pesach confined to their own home, brought to mind the couples awaiting children of their own.
No children bedecked in their fathers white shirts saying Ma Nishtana,
or singing Dayeinu, V'hee Sheamda and L'shana Habah.
The quiet and loneliness coupled with the closure of treatment centers causing tremendous frustration,
seeing a doctor in person, the government would not give authorization.
The fear of the unknown and loss of livelihood,
what would be the way to assist these couples and also lift up their mood?
This is where A-Time steps in with their expertise, more than ever important emotional and financial help, and patient advocacy,
this is what these couples awaiting their yeshua hang their hats on and now need not worry.
So please join me in this extra challenging year when fundraisers were curtailed and services are more needed, lets step up our support. By participating in the Shasathon we are assisting threefold- financially, the zechusim of our limud hatorah and in all the chashuva tefillos and with these zechusim we should all have simchos and nachas from our families and celebrate next years shasathon in Yerushalayim B"ezh. Tizku L'mitzvos!!
