As recently as the early 90’s, information on infertility within Jewish circles was completely nonexistent. This was the fledgling stages of the internet and even if one wanted, one could not have obtained information through instant and discreet means of communication. For many people, given the intimacy, sensitivity, and general personal insecurities (such as shame or guilt) involved in discussing and sharing their struggles with infertility, this meant suffering in silence.
However in 1993, 3 women created an organization called A TIME, which gave childless couples the ability to obtain information and gain knowledge while also providing recommendations and support throughout the fertility process.
A TIME is an organization that is close to our hearts given that our mother was one of those 3 founding women. No she did not have infertility issues herself; she was just looking to help support others. As time has gone on and A TIME has blossomed into the amazing and dynamic organization it is today, many diverse goals and objectives have been added to their everyday practices. But one underlying precept remains steadfast: Supporting people in a time of pain and struggle.
Now A TIME is asking you for help. They are asking you to support them so they can support others. This cyclical chain of chessed is primary to our existence and is what the Alter of Slabodka calls: “The ultimate reason for and purpose of the entire creation of the universe”
Please support me in my learning and may my learning be a zechus for anyone struggling with one of life’s constant challenges. May my learning be a zechus in particular to those who struggle in silence. This should be a zechus for people who have children and are trying their best to raise them right. This should be a zechus for those married couples who are trying to have children. This should be a zechus for all the single girls and boys who are searching for their bashert. May your contribution be a zechus for whatever you wish.
