One of the most challenging struggles a Jewish couple can go through is the struggle of infertility. It is a silent struggle that others generally do not see and can’t possibly understand. But for these couples, it is very real. It is the struggle of a longing not filled, an empty and lonely home, and the anxiety of not knowing when it will end. For many years, Couples struggling with infertility had nowhere to turn for help. First, there is the obvious stigma that made it difficult for anyone to even open up about the challenges they were facing. And even if a couple was brave enough to try to get help, where would they go? Who would they turn to? There was no one to even talk to who could understand their problem, let alone give direction as to where they might be able to find their yeshua.
In 1993, 3 women decided to take action and founded ATIME, an organization to help provide couples with much needed support and guidance as they journeyed through the challenge of infertility. ATIME fills a void in our community by providing necessary support and resources to those that are in this struggle. They offer emotional support and guidance, with volunteers ready to listen and hear what people are going through. They built up connections with doctors and hospitals in order to help their couples get seen more quickly and efficiently, instead of having to jump through hoops to get an appointment. They provide shabbatons and chizuk, offering couples the opportunity to meet others going through the same struggle, bonding over shared pain and helping to ease the burden by knowing they are not alone. And they provide crucial financial support to help pay for the specialty appointments and treatments. ATIME does all this and so much more, offering this crucial need to our friends and families, all while doing it in an extremely sensitive and understanding way.
ATIME is an organization that is very close to my heart, as my mother, Mrs. Blimy Steinberg, was one of its founders. Although Baruch Hashem she didn’t struggle with infertility herself, she saw what others were going through and could not just sit on the sidelines and watch. She saw what her friends were going through and was determined to help in whatever way she could. And though the vision she and the other founders had, we now Baruch Hashem have a way for couples dealing with this nisayon to get the help and the guidance they need.
Please help continue this chesed by joining in my campaign, thereby also getting a chelek in this incredible mitzvah and tzedakah. Not only do I want to continue my mother’s incredible mission, I am also doing this campaign as my own hakaras hatov to ATIME, as they were there with me on the beginning of my family's journey as well, and helped send my wife and I to the right Shliach for our own nisyonos. They really are there to everyone who needs them and need our support to continue doing their incredible work. Thank you and Tizku Lemitzvos.
